According to the World Bank, in 1971, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total exports of goods and services in current US$ minus total imports of goods and services in current US$) are: Ivory Coast (59.92M US$), Gabon (53.39M US$), and Mauritania (49.96M US$).

Conversely, in 1971, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total imports of goods and services in current US$ minus total exports of goods and services in current US$ ) are: South Africa (829.12M US$), Algeria (468.18M US$), and Egypt (390.97M US$).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
