According to the World Bank, in 1998, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total exports of goods and services in current US$ minus total imports of goods and services in current US$) are: South Africa (1.53B US$), Cameroon (187.97M US$), and Ivory Coast (140.29M US$).

Conversely, in 1998, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total imports of goods and services in current US$ minus total exports of goods and services in current US$ ) are: Egypt (8.06B US$), Morocco (1.67B US$), and Nigeria (1.63B US$).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
