According to the World Bank, in 2002, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total exports of goods and services in current US$ minus total imports of goods and services in current US$) are: Nigeria (6.13B US$), Algeria (5.61B US$), and South Africa (4.39B US$).

Conversely, in 2002, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total imports of goods and services in current US$ minus total exports of goods and services in current US$ ) are: Egypt (3.71B US$), Chad (2.02B US$), and Mozambique (1.60B US$).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
