On the other hand, in 1970, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP (i.e. total imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP minus total exports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP) are: Lesotho (36.66%), Botswana (36.25%), and Guinea-Bissau (26.19%).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
