According to the World Bank, in 2012, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services by percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) (i.e. total exports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP minus total imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP) are: Libya (35.51%), Gabon (29.56%), and Equatorial Guinea (27.14%).

On the other hand, in 2012, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP (i.e. total imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP minus total exports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP) are: Lesotho (67.93%), Mozambique (44.11%), and Sierra Leone (27.46%).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
