According to the World Bank, in 2014, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services by percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) (i.e. total exports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP minus total imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP) are: Equatorial Guinea (27.54%), Djibouti (17.38%), and Gabon (15.52%).

On the other hand, in 2014, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP (i.e. total imports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP minus total exports of goods and services as a percentage of GDP) are: Somalia (56.77%), Lesotho (51.74%), and Mozambique (48.90%).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
