Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of South Dakota households that received Food Stamps or SNAP was 8.41% (i.e. 29,089 households). Percentagewise, among all South Dakota counties, Oglala Lakota County had the highest percentage of its households that received Food Stamps (46.63%), followed by Todd County (39.20%), and Buffalo County (35.59%).
In numerical terms, Minnehaha County had the highest number of households that received Food Stamps or SNAP (7,228), followed by Pennington County (4,060), and Oglala Lakota County (1,210).
