According to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2003 Q1, the average weekly wage for North Carolina was $651. Among all North Carolina counties, Durham County had the highest average weekly wage ($986), followed by Mecklenburg County ($936), and Wake County ($742).

On the other hand, Avery County had the lowest average weekly wage ($400), followed by Perquimans County ($408), and Washington County ($414).
