According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in September 2006, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 224.5 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 7.0%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 7.5%
  2. Food away from home: 4.6%
  3. Food at home: 4.1%
