According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2004:

  1. New York: 13,300
  2. West Virginia: 11,500
  3. Michigan: 8,100

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2004:

  1. Arizona: -1,300
  2. Mississippi: -600
  3. New Hampshire: -200
