According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Total Nonfarm industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2004:

  1. California: 74,600
  2. Michigan: 66,200
  3. Pennsylvania: 57,100

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Total Nonfarm industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2004:

  1. Florida: -22,200
  2. Georgia: -13,500
  3. Virginia: -9,400
