Uganda's 2021 presidential election was held on January 14, 2021. Here, we analyze the data provided by the Electoral Commission of Uganda, mainly to provide some beautiful visualizations about the voter turnout and the election results which we believe can be helpful for further analysis. We also hope providing the results in simple tabular formats will make it easy for future analysis.

Voter Turnout: In general, out of the 18,103,603 registered voters, only 10,744,319 voted or participated in the election, which translates to a 59.35% voter turnout, a relatively low turnout as shown in the visualization below.

Looking at the general voter turnout alone doesn't tell us much about the voter participation. Some districts actively participated more in the election than others. These low turnout can be attributed to several factors, which had been widely reported in the media, and will require a whole page on its own. Notably, the low turnout can be attributed to voter suppression leading up to the election. This suppression was in the form of dozens of people being killed; the arrest and intimidation of opposition candidates, supporters and campaign staff; and the crackdowns of gatherings by the security forces. The excessive use of force led to the European Union casting doubt about the fairness of the election process; and the United States cancelled its observation of the election citing that its "accreditation requests" were denied as reported by Reuters and the BBC.

It goes without saying though, that if the significant number of people that did not participate in the election had actually voted, they could have swayed the election one way or the other, and we probably would have been talking about a different election results today.

Anyway, at the two extreme ends of the participation spectrum, were: Kiruhura district, which had 93.71% voter turnout; and Gulu City district, which had 33.77% voter turnout.
