According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, as at April 2020, there were 1,079,001 people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone in Mississippi, which was 36.44% of the total Mississippi population.

Hinds County had the highest number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone (157,483), followed by DeSoto County (55,972), and Harrison County (51,143). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone were: Tishomingo County (433), Issaquena County (748), and Itawamba County (1,623).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identify as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone, Claiborne County had the highest percentage (87.13%), followed by Jefferson County (84.55%), and Holmes County (83.49%).
