According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, as at April 2020, there were 38,330 people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone in New Mexico, which was 1.81% of the total New Mexico population.

Bernalillo County had the highest number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone (17,871), followed by Doña Ana County (3,172), and Sandoval County (2,823). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone were: Harding County (2), De Baca County (3), and Mora County (10).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identify as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone, Curry County had the highest percentage (5.19%), followed by Otero County (3.39%), and Lea County (3.35%).
