According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 631,016 people in California who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 1.60% of the total population of California. Los Angeles County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (163,464), followed by Riverside County (43,808), and San Bernardino County (41,663). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Sierra County (24), Alpine County (236), and Mono County (295).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Alpine County had the highest percentage, with 19.60% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Inyo County (13.01%), and Del Norte County (8.77%).
