According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 14,486 people in Iowa who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 0.45% of the total population of Iowa. Woodbury County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (2,515), followed by Polk County (2,274), and Tama County (1,427). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Ida County (4), Audubon County (5), and Van Buren County (7).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Tama County had the highest percentage, with 8.33% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Woodbury County (2.37%), and Monona County (1.67%).
