According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 68,641 people in Minnesota who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 1.20% of the total population of Minnesota. Hennepin County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (11,938), followed by Beltrami County (9,418), and St. Louis County (4,520). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Lac qui Parle County (15), Kittson County (15), and Fillmore County (16).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Mahnomen County had the highest percentage, with 42.95% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Beltrami County (20.37%), and Cass County (11.68%).
