According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 67,612 people in Montana who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 6.24% of the total population of Montana. Glacier County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (9,253), followed by Big Horn County (8,794), and Yellowstone County (7,226). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Petroleum County (0), Judith Basin County (1), and Meagher County (4).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Glacier County had the highest percentage, with 67.16% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Big Horn County (67.01%), and Roosevelt County (57.87%).
