According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 28,044 people in Tennessee who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 0.41% of the total population of Tennessee. Davidson County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (3,942), followed by Shelby County (3,334), and Knox County (2,057). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Van Buren County (7), Pickett County (8), and Decatur County (9).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Putnam County had the highest percentage, with 0.89% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Bedford County (0.85%), and Hamblen County (0.73%).
