According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 3,706 people in West Virginia who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 0.21% of the total population of West Virginia. Berkeley County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (407), followed by Kanawha County (402), and Cabell County (209). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Wirt County (4), Tucker County (4), and Ritchie County (9).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Clay County had the highest percentage, with 0.36% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Berkeley County (0.33%), and Pocahontas County (0.33%).
