Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2011, there were 55,181 people that identified as Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone in Michigan and they represented 0.56% of the total population of Michigan in 2011. Chippewa County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone population (6,000), followed by Wayne County (5,731), and Oakland County (2,934). On the other hand, Keweenaw County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone (3), followed by Montmorency County (45), and Oscoda County (50).
