Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2017, there were 56,223 people that identified as Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone in Michigan and they represented 0.56% of the total population of Michigan in 2017. Chippewa County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone population (6,085), followed by Wayne County (5,776), and Oakland County (2,964). On the other hand, Keweenaw County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native alone (6), followed by Montmorency County (57), and Oscoda County (71).
