Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, there were 1,808,507 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Illinois and they represented 14.14% of the total population of Illinois in 2020. Cook County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (1,204,448), followed by Will County (82,243), and St. Clair County (78,076). On the other hand, Hardin County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (18), followed by Calhoun County (22), and Henderson County (25).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, St. Clair County had the highest percentage (30.4%), followed by Alexander County (30.22%), and Pulaski County (30%).
