Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2023, there were 1,756,608 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Illinois and they represented 14.00% of the total population of Illinois in 2023. Cook County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (1,139,137), followed by Will County (86,269), and St. Clair County (75,803). On the other hand, Scott County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (31), followed by Calhoun County (35), and Putnam County (36).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Alexander County had the highest percentage (31.14%), followed by St. Clair County (30.2%), and Pulaski County (29.14%).
