Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2016, there were 110,960 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Iowa and they represented 3.54% of the total population of Iowa in 2016. Polk County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (31,673), followed by Scott County (12,565), and Black Hawk County (12,220). On the other hand, Adams County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (9), followed by Davis County (13), and Van Buren County (16).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Black Hawk County had the highest percentage (9.18%), followed by Scott County (7.29%), and Johnson County (6.79%).
