Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, there were 126,620 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Iowa and they represented 3.97% of the total population of Iowa in 2020. Polk County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (34,947), followed by Linn County (14,165), and Scott County (13,393). On the other hand, Van Buren County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (14), followed by Davis County (19), and Adams County (22).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Black Hawk County had the highest percentage (9.44%), followed by Johnson County (7.75%), and Scott County (7.67%).
