Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2021, there were 130,582 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Iowa and they represented 4.08% of the total population of Iowa in 2021. Polk County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (36,804), followed by Linn County (14,459), and Scott County (13,441). On the other hand, Van Buren County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (17), followed by Davis County (19), and Taylor County (25).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Black Hawk County had the highest percentage (9.48%), followed by Johnson County (7.91%), and Scott County (7.72%).
