Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2022, there were 133,920 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Iowa and they represented 4.18% of the total population of Iowa in 2022. Polk County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (37,715), followed by Linn County (15,042), and Scott County (13,715). On the other hand, Van Buren County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (17), followed by Davis County (18), and Taylor County (25).
