Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2023, there were 137,222 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Iowa and they represented 4.28% of the total population of Iowa in 2023. Polk County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (38,609), followed by Linn County (15,567), and Scott County (13,939). On the other hand, Davis County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (18), followed by Van Buren County (20), and Taylor County (21).
