Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2022, there were 2,267,145 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in North Carolina and they represented 21.19% of the total population of North Carolina in 2022. Mecklenburg County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (361,440), followed by Wake County (230,859), and Guilford County (191,813). On the other hand, Graham County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (51), followed by Mitchell County (129), and Clay County (153).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Bertie County had the highest percentage (59.92%), followed by Hertford County (58.82%), and Edgecombe County (56.53%).
