Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2015, there were 1,106,679 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Tennessee and they represented 16.78% of the total population of Tennessee in 2015. Shelby County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (500,036), followed by Davidson County (186,923), and Hamilton County (68,925). On the other hand, Pickett County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (8), followed by Hancock County (27), and Scott County (34).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Shelby County had the highest percentage (53.33%), followed by Haywood County (49.99%), and Hardeman County (41.52%).
