Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2014, there were 63,676 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in West Virginia and they represented 3.44% of the total population of West Virginia in 2014. Kanawha County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (14,155), followed by Berkeley County (7,754), and Raleigh County (6,245). On the other hand, Clay County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (16), followed by Calhoun County (18), and Tyler County (19).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Gilmer County had the highest percentage (11.27%), followed by McDowell County (8.77%), and Raleigh County (7.98%).
