Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2015, there were 63,606 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in West Virginia and they represented 3.45% of the total population of West Virginia in 2015. Kanawha County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (14,081), followed by Berkeley County (7,904), and Raleigh County (6,198). On the other hand, Tyler County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (16), followed by Calhoun County (17), and Clay County (18).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Gilmer County had the highest percentage (10.57%), followed by McDowell County (8.67%), and Raleigh County (8.01%).
