Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, there were 63,524 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in West Virginia and they represented 3.55% of the total population of West Virginia in 2020. Kanawha County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (13,496), followed by Berkeley County (9,305), and Raleigh County (5,743). On the other hand, Calhoun County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (27), followed by Tyler County (29), and Tucker County (29).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Gilmer County had the highest percentage (11.55%), followed by Raleigh County (7.72%), and Berkeley County (7.58%).
