Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2022, there were 64,516 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in West Virginia and they represented 3.64% of the total population of West Virginia in 2022. Kanawha County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (12,944), followed by Berkeley County (10,138), and Raleigh County (5,533). On the other hand, Tucker County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (28), followed by Wirt County (31), and Webster County (32).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Gilmer County had the highest percentage (13.04%), followed by McDowell County (9.42%), and Berkeley County (7.84%).
