According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2023, the net migration for North Carolina was 156,820. Wake County had the highest net migration (22,579) followed by Mecklenburg County (19,065), and Brunswick County (7,546). On the other hand, Cumberland County had the lowest net migration (-2,781), followed by Halifax County (-305), and Richmond County (-223).

Net migration for a county refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the county and those leaving the county. Or to put it simply, the net migration for a given county is the inbound migration minus the outbound migration for that county.
