United States Net Migration By State in 2012

According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2012, the net migration for the United States was 858,736. Texas had the highest net migration (226,441), followed by Florida (204,331), and California (54,261). On the other hand, Illinois had the lowest net migration -43,513, followed by Ohio (-20,699), and New Jersey (-18,211).

Net migration for a state refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the state and those leaving the state. Or to put it simply, the net migration for a given state is the inbound migration minus the outbound migration for that state.
