According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2013, the net migration rate per 1,000 population for South Dakota was 4.79. Corson County had the highest net migration rate per 1,000 population (22.48), followed by Lawrence County (21.83), and Marshall County (19.17). On the other hand, Harding County had the lowest net migration rate per 1,000 population (-46.04), followed by Kingsbury County (-31.87), and Hyde County (-27.78).

Net migration rate for a county refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the county and those leaving the county per 1,000 of the county's mid-year population.
