Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in Maine with household income of less than $40k was 31.70%. Among all Maine cities and places with a population of at least 10K, Augusta city had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (49.44%), followed by Waterville city (47.92%), and Bangor city (42.57%).
On the other hand, the following 3 cities and places had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: South Portland city (22.55%), Saco city (23.35%), and Brunswick CDP (26.50%).
