Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of Black or African American Alone households in North Carolina with household income of less than $40k was 46.82%. Among all North Carolina counties, Macon County had the highest percentage of Black or African American Alone households with household income of less than $40k (89.09%), followed by Yancey County (85.19%), and Clay County (83.10%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of Black or African American Alone households with household income of less than $40k: Ashe County (0.00%), Alleghany County (13.33%), and Madison County (14.71%).
