Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in California with household income of less than $40k was 24.26%. Among all California counties, Trinity County had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (45.08%), followed by Imperial County (41.84%), and Modoc County (40.87%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: Santa Clara County (13.95%), San Mateo County (13.99%), and Marin County (15.59%).
