Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in Illinois with household income of less than $40k was 28.09%. Among all Illinois counties, Alexander County had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (50.08%), followed by Pulaski County (49.92%), and Jackson County (48.93%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: Kendall County (10.63%), DuPage County (16.74%), and Will County (17.49%).
