Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in Iowa with household income of less than $40k was 29.46%. Among all Iowa counties, Appanoose County had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (42.66%), followed by Jefferson County (41.93%), and Clay County (39.20%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: Dallas County (17.89%), Mills County (21.32%), and Bremer County (21.47%).
