Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in New York with household income of less than $40k was 28.55%. Among all New York counties, Bronx County had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (46.76%), followed by Chautauqua County (40.81%), and Cattaraugus County (39.01%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: Nassau County (14.31%), Putnam County (15.58%), and Suffolk County (16.11%).
