Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of Black or African American Alone households in the United States with household income of less than $40k was 44.06%. Among all US states and DC, Mississippi had the highest percentage of Black or African American Alone households with household income of less than $40k (56.91%), followed by West Virginia (56.28%), and Louisiana (55.92%). On the other hand, the following 3 states had low percentages of Black or African American Alone households with household income of less than $40k: Alaska (25.72%), Hawaii (25.88%), and Maryland (27.40%).
