New Jersey Number and Percentage of Households that Received Food Stamps or SNAP By Race and Ethnicity in 2021 (ACS-5Yrs)

Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, 283,817 out of 3,397,156 New Jersey households received Food Stamps or SNAP in the last 12 months (i.e. 8.36% of New Jersey households).

By Race: As a percentage of the total number of households that received SNAP or Food Stamps, the White Alone racial group constituted 43.08%; the Black Alone racial group constituted 27.39%, and the Some Other Race Alone racial group constituted 14.20%.

By Ethnicity: As a percentage of the total number of households that received Food Stamps or SNAP, the Non-Hispanic White Alone ethnicity group constituted 29.11%, and the Hispanic or Latino of All Races ethnicity group constituted 37.09%.

Percentage of Each Racial Group's Households that Received SNAP: 5.36% of White Alone households received Food Stamps or SNAP; 17.55% of Black Alone households received SNAP; and 20.31% of Some Other Race Alone households received SNAP.
