United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) and Inflation Rate: Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI in April 2003 (Not Seas Adj.)

According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in April 2003, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI was 183.4 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 1.4%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 20.6%
  2. Motor fuel: 4.7%
  3. Rent of primary residence: 3.6%

The CPI-U is based on the expenditures of almost all residents of urban or metropolitan areas, including professionals, the self-employed, the poor, the unemployed, and retired people, as well as urban wage earners and clerical workers.
