According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in March 2015, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI was 227.405 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was -0.6%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Rent of primary residence: 3.6%
  2. Food away from home: 2.7%
  3. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 2.5%
