According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2017, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI was 233.443 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 1.8%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 6.1%
  2. Rent of primary residence: 2.7%
  3. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 2.2%
