According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in August 2004, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI was 186.8 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 3.3%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 15.3%
  2. Household energy: 6.5%
  3. Food away from home: 3.1%
